愛と死のアラビア
敗戦で捕虜となりながらも、捕虜交換を拒否し、イスラム教に改宗し、アラビア人の妻を娶り、アラブの戦士として生涯を終えた、実在英国兵士トマス・キースを描いたローズマリ・サトクリフ著「血と砂―愛と死のアラビア―」をミュージカル化した作品。
物語はトマス・キースが、オスマン・トルコとエジプトとの政治的な駆引の道具として処刑されるところで終わるのだが、実話ではメディナの総督にまでなった彼が、遠征先で危機に陥った友人のトゥスンを救うために戦地に赴き、命を落とすことになるらしい。
本作では、アラビア人になり切れず中途半端なまま死んで行くようである。実話のままのストーリーの方がよかったんじゃないかと思う。
バウ物の落語シリーズを見事にまとめあげた谷先生だけれど、本公演だと、なんでこうも中途半端な脚本になってしまうのか謎だなあ。
男の世界の話で、女はほとんど筋に絡んでこない。桜乃彩音はトマスの嫁となるアノウド役だが、たいして重要な役ではなし、他の娘役にとっても同様。唯一、桜一花のナイリが目立っていた程度。
ベドウィンたちが集団で踊る場面は、振りもユニークだし、「我はベドウィン、砂漠の狼、ハッハッ」と叫びながら賑やかで面白い。

唐辛子みたいな辛そうな海じゃなくて、熱い南の海なんだそうだ。
過去作品の引用が多いという評も見聞きするけれど、宝塚ってそういうもんじゃん♪
熱帯魚の集団のような派手な衣装で総踊りのプロローグ、ラテン全開の中詰はキラキラも眩しくて楽しい。
紳士淑女(?)の集う幽霊船も面白い。
ひき潮では、セット無し舞台全体を使って、三組のダンス。舞城のどかのダンスを堪能。
海風の場面、宙を飛ぶ棺桶を追いかけながら、妖しく踊りながら通り過ぎる葬送の列が秀逸。
デニムの衣装に羽飾りのフィナーレは御趣向。中詰のように踊り狂っていて楽しい。大階段をクロスに降りてくるのは珍しいですね。主演男役の階段降りの場面では、定番のハの字に並んで出迎えるのではなく、大階段の前を敷き詰めるように並び羽を揺らして海を表現しながらのお出迎え。１階席で見たら、海の向こうから真飛聖がやって来たように見えるのだろうな。
今回は、芝居もショーも、皆黒塗りなので、誰が誰だか判別しにくいのが難点。
